Considerationsforconnectinganexternalmonitor
•Wheninstallinganoperatingsystem,youmustinstallthedisplaydriverforyourmonitorthatisprovided
withthecomputer,andthemonitorINFlethatisprovidedwiththeexternalmonitor.
•Ifyousetaresolutionhigherthantheresolutionyouareusingonthecomputermonitor,andusean
externalmonitorthatdoesnotsupportthatresolution,takeadvantageofthevirtualscreenfunction,
whichenablesyoutodisplayonlyapartofthehigh-resolutionscreenimageyourcomputerproduces.
YoucanseeotherpartsoftheimagebymovingthescreenwiththeTrackPointpointingdeviceoranother
pointingdevice.
•Iftheexternalmonitoryouareusingisoutdated,theresolutionandtherefreshratemightbelimited.
UsingaDVImonitor
Ifyourcomputerhasoneofthefollowingoptionaldockingstations,youcanuseaDigitalVisualInterface
(DVI)monitorthroughtheDVIconnectorofthatunit:
•ThinkPadProDock
•ThinkPadUltraDock
Notes:
•ThescreenmodethatcanbeuseddependsonthespecicationsoftheDVImonitor.
•BeforeyouconnectaDVImonitor,makesurethatthecomputerisconnectedtotheexpansionunitand
worksproperly.
ToconnectaDVImonitor,dothefollowing:
1.Turnoffthecomputer.
2.ConnectaDVImonitortotheDVIconnectoroftheexpansionunit,andthenconnectthemonitor
toanelectricaloutlet.
3.TurnontheDVImonitorandthecomputer.
IfthecomputeroutputdoesnotappearontheDVImonitor,dothefollowing:
•ForWindows7:
1.PressCtrl+Alt+F12.TheIntel
®
GraphicsandMediaControlPanelwindowopens.
2.SelectAdvancedModeandclickOK.
3.SelectMultipleDisplays.
4.IntheOperatingModeeld,selectoneofthefollowingoptionsdependingonyourneedsandfollow
theinstructionsonthescreentocompleteothercongurations.
